PROJECTS

Legal awareness

Adharshila launched its legal awareness programme in March 2006 in partnership with the Delhi Legal Service Authority (DLSA).
The project, titled “Strengthening Human Capital,” helps educate teenagers regarding fundamental legal rights, how to file a legal complaint, how to approach police, and how to handle an accident as a victim or bystander.
The DLSA provides free legal services for women, and Adharshila centre also hosts free legal aid sessions.
Adharshila also partners with several schools and college in Delhi to conduct legal awareness sessions with the help of trained lawyers.
The programs are conducted with emphasis on the urban poor, particularly women, making them equipped to handle the social evils engulfing society.

Nutrition awareness camps

Adharshila organizes free nutrition awareness camps at slum schools and the NGO center in partnership with the Food & Nutrition Board, Ministry of WCD ( Women and Child Development) ,Government of India and the Ministry of HRD (Human Resource Development).
The programme provides instructions on how to prepare low cost, nutritionally rich food for children. We distribute detailed instructions and pamphlets to participants regarding the nutrition value of different foods.
We conduct this program on a regular basis for schools that express interest and for slum dwellers at the NGO center.

Aids awareness and prevention workshop for adolescent girls

Adharshila organizes AIDS awareness and prevention workshops for married women and unmarried adolescent girls.

Adult literacy programme

Developed by Tata Consultancy Services(TCS), Adharshila’s adult literacy programme helps improve literacyin slum communities. Ms. Wendy Butler, Chairperson, British High Commission Charity Committee inaugurated the Adult literacy Programme at the Centre.

Adharshila invitesstudent volunteers from the Delhi University NSS (National Social Service) programme and volunteers from TOI ( Times of India) Teach India program to assist these courses.

Self Defence camps

Adharshila conducts regular free self-defense training camps for underprivileged young girls in partnership with the Delhi police and the Crime Against Women Cell.

Health insurance drive

Adharshila has launched a program to promote and spread awareness of health insurance schemes for families living below the poverty line. Many people have come forward to get their families insured.

Dental camps

Adharshila hosts free dental checkup and awareness camps for the slum dwellers at its centers.

St. John Ambulance Training Programme @ Adharshila Ambulance

Adharshila organises five days certificate training programs in first aid and home nursing.
A disaster managementteam has been set up to assist in unfortunate circumstances.

Adharshila-Times of India- Times Foundation Initiative

Teach India is a social initiative from the Times of India that brings together children in need of education and people who can contribute a little time towards teaching them.
Volunteers fromTeach India have successfully completed 1900 hours of teaching the students at the center.

Vocational trainingin Beauty and healthcare

Adharshila conducts a Beauty and healthcare course for adolescent girls and women.
Upon completion of the course, the graduates receive certification directly from Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Ministry of HRD (Human Resource Development), Government of India.
While some of our students build careers in beauty and healthcare, some choose to continue their education.

Vocational Training Programme In Cutting & Tailoring

Adharshila offers vocational trainingin Cutting & Tailoring which is Certified by Jan Sikshan Sansthan, Ministry of HRD (Human Resource Development), Government of India.

Vocational Training Programme In Computers

Adharshila offers computer training program to the targeted beneficiaries.
The course graduates receive certification from Jan Shikshan Sansthan, Ministry of HRD (Human Resource Development), Government of India.

FACILITIES AT THE CENTER

Homeopathic Clinic-Primla Puri Health Centre

At the Homeopathic clinic at the centers, doctors Consultation & Free Medicines are available every day for access to the beneficiaries.

Punjab National Bank(PNB)Computer Center

A computer center is set-up at the centers where the vocational training classes are held regularly. A number of computers are available to the ones who are keen to learn.

Fena Library

Fena Foundation Library & Reading Room at Adharshila was set up to help students extend their studies beyond textbooks prescribed at their school.
The center’s library has a collection of over 1200 books on all topics including math, science, English, computers fiction and non-fiction. It has text books, reference books, story books, educational CDs & audio visual equipment. Children use this facility regularly to enhance their knowledge base.

Tuition center

Throughout the week, remedial classes are held to help students build academic confidence and assist them in their school curriculum.
Students attend these courses after school and during their summer vacations. They receive help in all subjects, including English, Science, Social Studies and Mathematics.
Students of all ages are tutored, from nursery to middle school. Our tutors and volunteers of Teach India & Delhi University empower students with the skills to graduate from school and pursue a college degree.
